North:
Berlin Sluggers – Cologne Cardinals 3-8, 1-11 (7)
The Cologne Cardinals swept a doubleheader against the Berlin Sluggers to get back into winning lane in the Baseball-Bundesliga. Maurice Wilhelm hit a couple of homeruns, scored six runs and drove in four on the day. Joshua Tamba also homered and picked up the win in game two.
Dohren Wild Farmers – HSV Stealers 1-16, 0-5
The HSV Stealers are on the verge of securing fourth place in the northern division and even have a shot at third. On Saturday they beat the Dohren Wild Farmers twice on the road. In game one The Stealers took a 6-1 lead with a five-run rally in the sixth and blew it wide open with ten runs in the ninth for a 16-1 victory. Brehan Murphy, Eric Krysiak and Brent Buffa hit homeruns. Buffa also struck out nine in eight innings for the win. Jeff Rustico ended the scoreless streak for Hamburg’s pitchers with a solo shot in the first. In game two Antonio Peraza struck out 19 batters in his third straight complete game shutout. He issued just three hits and a walk. Mathis Grope provided the offensive highlight with a two-run homerun.
Untouchables Paderborn – Bonn Capitals 12-2 (7), 10-0 (7)
It was supposed to be the duel between two top teams. However the Bonn Capitals were no match for the Untouchables Paderborn on Saturday, losing 2-12 and 0-10 in seven innings each. In game one Bjoern Schonlau homered and drove in three. Eugen Heilmann pitched seven innings for the win. In game two Brian Fields struck out nine in seven scoreless two-hit innings, out-pitching Bryce Schoening who used his vacation to start in place of Charley Olson. Julius Uelschen scored four runs for Paderborn.
Dortmund Wanderers – Solingen Alligators 3-10, 4-2
The Dortmund Wanderers split a twin bill with the Solingen Alligators on Saturday evening. In game one Solingen scored five runs in the second, chasing Dennis Stechmann from the game en route to a 10-3 victory. Dominik Wulf drove in three. Florian Goetze collected four hits and two RBI. Andre Hughes pitched seven strong innings for the win. In game two Dortmund scored four runs in the opening period on singles by Daniel Groer, Darrion Castillo and Tobias Willach to decide the outcome in a 4-2 win. Elliot Biddle got the start in place of Joey Parigi and the Australian pulled off a second complete game over a top-three team, two weeks after defeating the Bonn Capitals.
South:
Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – Haar Disciples 18-2 (7), 7-2
The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg dispatched the Haar Disciples on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. In game one of the two-game set Regensburg stormed out with nine runs in the first en route to an 18-2 blowout. Ludwig Glaser, Petr Cech and Chris Zirzlmeier hit homeruns and combined for nine hits and ten RBI. In game two the Buchbinder Legionaere scored five runs in the opening frame in a 7-2 victory. Chris Howard went deep. Justin Kuehn pitched five no-hit innings for the win. Paco Garcia started both games for Haar, but didn’t get past the first inning in each outing.
Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Stuttgart Reds 20-8, 6-2
The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe used their offense to get past the Stuttgart Reds in both ends of a two-game series. On Friday evening they scored seven runs in the first and nine in the fourth on route to a 20-8 slugfest in seven innings. Justin Wilson and Andrew Smith had four hits and three runs apiece. Peter Dankerl drove in four. On Saturday Heidenheim scored two runs in the seventh and eighth to break a 2-2 tie in a 6-2 victory. Patrick Lawson won the duel on the mound against Richard Olson.
Mannheim Tornados – Mainz Athletics 5-10, 2-1
The Mannheim Tornados split a doubleheader against the Mainz Athletics, which secured a spot in the playoffs with the win. On Friday Mainz scored seven runs combined in the third and fourth in a 10-5 victory. Andreas Lastinger drove in four. Dennis Kelly had three hits and three runs for Mainz. Christian Decher struck out eight in seven impressive innings, allowing just one run on six hits and three walks. Jan-Niclas Stoecklin took the loss against his former team. On Saturday Matt Kemp finally came through, striking out eight in seven one-run innings to lead his Tornados to a 2-1 win. Jonathan Wagner homered and scored both Mannheim runs. Pat Haugen collected 11 strikeouts, but still ended up with the loss.
