SAN MARINO opened the game by scoring nine runs in the top of the first and won the slugfest against GODO 17-7. Seth La Fera (3-5, 4 runs, 4 RBI), Carlos Duran (5-6, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Martin Vasquez and Max De Biase homered for the defending champion. Danilo Sanchez went four-for-four with a homerun, two runs scored and two RBI for DE ANGELIS. Luca Martignoni allowed ten hits, four runs and two bb in five innings to pick up the win. Matteo Galeotti was chased from the game after getting just one out in the opening frame. He surrendered seven hits, nine runs and a walk for the loss.

PARMA defeated RIMINI in eleven innings thanks to a walk off RBI single by Orlando Munoz. TELEMARKET had tied the game in the eighth to force extra innings on a RBI single by Luigi Carrozza. Eddie Rios and Ivanon Coffie homered for the PIRATES. Jhonny Carvajal hit a homerun and scored three times for CARIPARMA. Roberto Corradini (PAR) gave up five hits, four runs and three bb in seven innings. Sandy Patrone (RIM) issued five runs (4 ER) on ten hits in 4 1/3 innings. Danny Newman picked up the win, Ilo Bartolucci the loss.

BOLOGNA won game one of the Saturday doubleheader against NETTUNO 5-4 in eleven innings. Joseph Mazzuca delivered the decisive hit with a RBI double in the second extra inning, plating Luca Breveglieri. Claudio Liverziani made the ending possible, when he tied the contest in the top of the ninth with a one-out two-run homerun. He already had driven in the first two runs for the guests in the third with a two-run single. Abraham Nunez had two RBI for DANESI. Yulman Ribeiro (BOL) allowed seven hits, four runs and five bb in 5 1/3 innings. Giovanni Carrara (NET) conceded five hits, two runs and two walks in four innings. Fabio Milano received the win, Carlos Pezzullo the loss.

NETTUNO nearly blew another lead in the night cap of the doubleheader, barely prevailing 6-5 against FORTITUDO. Francisco Imperiali put them up in front with a RBI single in the second. Leonardo Mazzanti started a five-run rally in the fifth with a two-run single, which was followed by a three-run homerun by Imperiali to make it 6-0. But BOLOGNA hadn’t given up. They scored four runs on a RBI single by Richard Austin, a two-run double by Joseph Mazzuca and a sac fly by Matthew Stocco in the sixth to get back into the game. Austin provided another RBI single in the seventh to cut the deficit to a run. However the next seven batters went down in order and DANESI sealed the victory. Carlos Richetti picked up the win after six innings, six hits, four runs and four bb. Fabio Betto conceded seven hits, six runs and two walks for the loss.
Montepaschi Grosseto – Palfinger Reggio Emilia 9-6, 7-4

GROSSETO won game one of the doubleheader against REGGIO EMILIA 9-6, scoring seven runs in the first four frames. Jairo Ramos went three-for-three with two walks, a homerun and a whopping five RBI. Jorge Nunez collected three runs and two RBI. Paul Macaluso drove in three for PALFINGER. Chris Cooper (GRO) lasted just 4 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, four runs (3 ER) and five bb. Yovany D’Amico came in and picked up the win. Gregory Palanzo received the loss after four innings, eight hits, seven runs (4 ER) and three walks.

The ORIOLES used a five-run third to overcome a three-run deficit en route to a 7-4 win and the sweep in the three-game series over REGGIO EMILIA. Raul Marval highlighted the decisive rally with a bases clearing double. Edoardo Aprili hit a solo homerun and drove in two for MONETPASCHI. Paul Macaluso went three-for-five with a homerun and three RBI. Junior Oberto was responsible for four hits, three runs and three bb in six innings, but got rewarded with the win. Daustin Nielsen gave up six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings for the loss.
