With game two in the afternoon again postponed due to rain, the evening affair between Rimini and San Marino could be played. The Pirates scored four runs in the eighth to take a 6-1 lead and were able to stop T&A right in time in the ninth to win 6-5.

RBI singles by Jhonny Carvajal and Claudio Signori plus a two-run single by Lorenzo Avagnina put the four Telemarket runs on the board. The Titans tried to come back one frame later, cutting the deficit to a run on a two-run double by Francesco Imperiali, a sac fly by Dean Rovinelli and a wild pitch. Rookie Mattia Barbaresi (S 1) came in, replacing Mauro Schiavoni with two outs and struck out Carlos Duran with the bases loaded to secure the victory.

Sandy Patrone (W) allowed six hits and a run in seven innings to pick up the win. He struck out six. Tiago Da Silva (L) issued five hits, three runs and a bb in 7 1/3 innings, striking out eight. Game two of the series will be made up on Sunday afternoon.

Montepaschi Grosseto – UGF Bologna 4-5, 8-1

UGF Bologna scored four runs in the top of the ninth on a RBI single by Livinsto Santaniello and a bases clearing triple by Juan Carlos Infante to beat Grosseto 5-4. The Orioles had taken a 4-1 lead with an own four-run rally in the fourth, when Luca Bischeri and Leonardo Mazzanti hit a pair of RBI singles and Andrea Sgnaolin a two-run double. Chris Cooper (GRO) allowed five hits, a run and a walk in seven innings. He collected seven Ks. Yulman Ribeiro (BOL) lasted just four innings, giving up three hits, four runs and five bb. Cody Cillo (W) received the win after striking out five in five two-hit innings of relief. Fernando Gutierrez (L) managed just one out to blew the lead.

In the night cap of the doubleheader Montepaschi scored seven runs in the first two frames en route to an easy 8-1 win. Ivanon Coffie (grand slam) and Kelly Ramos highlighted the five-run rally in the second with back-to-back homeruns. Danny Sandoval scored twice. Riccardo De Santis (W) struck out seven in seven innings, issuing four hits, an unearned run and three walks. Fabio Betto (L) gave up six hits, seven runs (2 ER) and four bb in 3 2/3 innings.

Cariparma added to the struggles of Nettuno with a pair of wins on Saturday. Game three will follow on Sunday morning. In game one of the twin bill they overcame an early 0-4 deficit with six runs in the fourth on their way to a 7-4 win. Manuel Gasparri drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single. Vincent Parisi had two RBI for Danesi. Mihai Burlea (W) allowed seven hits, four runs and five walks in 5 1/3 innings. Michael Natale (L) didn’t allow a hit, but five runs (3 ER) and four walks in three-plus innings to take the loss.

In the evening Parma was led by starting pitcher Roberto Corradini (W) in a 6-0 shutout. He issued just six hits and three walks in 7 1/3 scoreless innings. Juan Camilo went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Orlando Munoz drove in two. Carlos Richetti (L) struck out eight in seven solid innings, but didn’t receive any run support to take the loss. He gave up four hits, two runs and a walk. With the two losses Nettuno dropped to 4-7 and sixth place in the standings, already four games behind the fourth playoff spot. Parma can move into a tie for first with a win on Sunday.

Catania Warriors – De Angelis Godo Knights 14-4 (7), 8-14 (8)

The Catania Warriors evened the series with a 14-4 rout over the Godo Knights in game two of the series on Saturday afternoon. Weltin Cabrera hit a grand slam in the sixth and drove in a total of six runs. Perez Rosario went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBI. Daniele Santolupo also scored three times for the Sicilian club. Giacomo Meriggi and Carlos Villalobos drove in two each for Godo. Orlando Yntema (W) went the distance for the Warriors, allowing eight hits, four runs (3 ER) and three walks in seven innings. He struck out seven. Danny Forte (L) took another loss, surrendering four hits, six runs (5 ER) and two bb in 1 1/3 innings.

14 was also the magic number in the rubber match of the series, as the Knights scored nine runs in the top of the third to win 14-8 at the Joe DiMaggio stadium in Palermo. Marco Sabbatani and Francesco Fuzzi highlighted the rally with a pair of two-run triples. Carlos Villalobos added a three-run homerun later on. Perez Rosario had four hits, including a homerun, for Catania. Raffaele Medoro drove in three. Roberto Cabalisti (W) received the win in relief. Francesco Cozzolino (GOD) stayed on the mound for only four innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and a walk. William Lucena (L) was charged with four hits, six runs (1 ER) and a bb in 2 1/3 innings. The game ended in the top of the eighth because of rain.
