Telemarket Rimini opened the 2011 season with a 5-0 shutout over the North East Knights. On Friday evening Dushan Ruzic (W 1-0) struck out eight in six scoreless two-hit innings to lead the Pirates to the win. Chris Di Roma and Panagiotis Sikaras closed out the three-hitter. Former big leaguer Josh Phelps singled and walked three times for Rimini, scoring two runs and driving in another. Mario Chiarini had two hits. Rodney Rodriguez (L 0-1) surrendered four runs (1 ER) on four hits and two walks in five-plus innings.
T&A San Marino – Danesi Nettuno 3-0

Henry Bonilla (W 1-0) and Darwin Cubilan (S) combined to allow just two hits and six walks to lead T&A San Marino to a 3-0 shutout over Danesi Nettuno on Friday in the Italian Baseball League. Bonilla struck out two in six-plus innings for the win. Cubilan closed it out. A two-run homerun by Giovanni Pantaleoni broke a scoreless tie in the sixth. A bases loaded walk by Tony Granato in the seventh added an insurance run. Kris Wilson (L 0-1) struck out seven in six innings. However he also gave up the decisive homerun and took the loss.
Novara United – Montepaschi Grosseto 7-2

It was a successful debut for Novara United in the Italian Baseball League. The new team, which has replaced the Catania Warriors on the league roster, defeated Montepaschi Grosseto 7-2 on Friday night. After taking a quick 2-0 lead after four innings thanks to RBI singles by Niccolo Milani and Alex Sucet, Novara added five runs combined in the sixth and seventh to seal the deal. Sucet drove in three runs overall. Franklin Tavarez added two hits and two RBI. On the mound Jean Toledo (W 1-0) allowed seven hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. Antonio Noguera pitched the remaining three frames. Jean Granado (L 0-1) surrendered four hits, five runs and five bb in six innings. He struck out seven.
Cariparma Parma – Unipol Bologna 1-3

Unipol Bologna also won game two of their series with Cariparma Parma. After the victory in the opening game on Thursday they celebrated a 3-1 win one day later. A pair of errors by shortstop Marco Yepez and center fielder Leonardo Zileri helped Juan Pablo Angrisano and Joe Mazzuca to cross the plate in the eighth, breaking a 1-1 tie. Parma actually had the better start, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a sac fly by Orlando Munoz. However they weren’t able to increase the advantage and Fortitudo tied the contest in the sixth when Angrisano drove in Gabriele Ermini. Cody Cillo (BOL) issued four hits, a run and three bb in six innings. Mihai Burlea (PAR) gave up five hits, a run and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. Yulman Ribeiro got the win, Marco Grifantini the loss.
