
Paderborn Untouchables – Cologne Cardinals 12-1, 5-3
The UNTOUCHABLES were off on opening weekend and started into the new season on the Easter holidays. On Saturday they defeated the CARDINALS twice. In game one they scored nine runs in the first two innings en route to a 12-1 win. Gavin Ng and Octavio Medina each scored three times. Michael Franke drove in three. Daniel Hinz (W 1-0) picked up the win with five solid innings. Pascal Raab (L 0-2) gave up eight runs (6 ER) on four hits and four bb in one-plus innings for the loss.
In the second match Medina (3-5) led PADERBORN to a 5-3 victory thanks to four RBI, including two in the eighth to drive in the winning runs. Florian Nehring had two RBIs for COLOGNE. Eugen Heilman struck out seven in seven innings. Kalev Betancourt (L 1-1) gave up eleven hits, five runs (2 ER) and six bb for the loss. Daniel Rahn picked up the win in relief.
Paderborn Untouchables – Dortmund Wanderers 14-6, 1-0
Two days later the U’s hosted the WANDERERS for the second part of the Easter game days. In the first match they took a 13-0 lead through six innings, before DORTMUND scored six runs in seventh to avoid a mercy-rule loss. Octavio Medina continued his hot hitting with three more hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Gavin Ng, Bjoern Schonlau, Oliver Neisemeier and Michael Gollan scored twice. Aljoscha Heller had two RBI for the guest squad. Schonlau (W 1-0) also pitched six-plus innings to take the win. He gave up five hits, three runs and a walk. Michael Kaber (L 0-1) took the loss, being charged with six hits, nine runs (4 ER) and six bb in 2 2/3 innings.
The people in attendance saw a pitcher’s duel in the second part of the doubleheader. Eugen Heilman (W 1-0) struck out ten in 8 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits and two walks to lead PADERBORN to a 1-0 win. Gavin Ng scored the lone run in the sixth. He walked, stole second and scored on a hit by Jendrick Speer. Matt Kemp (L 0-2) took the tough loss, giving up one unearned run on three hits and four bb in six innings. He struck out eight.
Bonn Capitals – Solingen Alligators 0-15, 2-12
The ALLIGATORS celebrated two lopsided wins in BONN on Saturday. In game one Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez allowed just two hits to lead SOLINGEN to a 15-0 shutout. He struck out ten in seven innings. Dominik Wulf led the offense with a grand slam. CAPS’ starter Tim Henkenjohann was chased from the mound after two innings not being able to stop the strong offense of last year’s north champion.
The second match was not much different. Wulf hit a two-run homerun in the first and SOLINGEN led 8-2 after three innings en route to an easy 12-2 victory. Christian Nsien added another homerun in the seventh. Carlos Mendez debuted for SOLINGEN in the Bundesliga and picked up the win. BONN’s hurler Adrian Stommel impressed with four innings of two-hit relief, after the first two CAPITALS pitcher allowed eight runs in the first.
Solingen Alligators – Cologne Cardinals 9-4, 12-2
On Monday the ALLIGATORS played host to the CARDINALS and moved their record to 6-0. In the first game they scored all nine runs between the second and fifth in a 9-4 win. Cleanup hitter Christian Nsien drove in two. Chris Beck, who had three hits, and Dominik Wulf each scored twice. COLOGNE was able to cut the deficit to five runs thanks to a four-run rally in the seventh. Markus Stryczek drove in two for the CARDS. Sascha Steffens went three-for-four with a RBI. Robin Drache (W 1-0) won the duel of 18-year-old pitchers against Pascal Raab (L 0-3). He struck out seven in six scoreless innings, allowing six hits and a walk. Raab surrendered ten hits, nine runs (5 ER) and six bb in six innings.
The second game started with four SOLINGEN runs and the home team led 7-0 after three innings, winning early 12-2 through five runs in the seventh. Moritz Buttgereit and Patrick Kanthak combined for five hits, four runs scored and four RBI. Chris Beck and Julian Steinberg also scored twice. Jens Cornelsen (W 2-0) gave up seven hits, two runs and two bb in six innings, striking out seven. Ryo Kagami (L 0-1) took the loss after five hits, seven runs (6 ER) and three walks in four innings.
HSV Stealers – Pulheim Gophers 15-13, 11-2
The STEALERS nearly blew a commanding lead twice in the first match against the GOPHERS, but prevailed to win 15-13. Marcel de Vos, who didn’t even start the game, led the offense with three hits, including a homerun and four RBI. Alexander Harms and Brehan Murphy each drove in three for the HSV. Michael Fliedner scored three times. Philipp Spade (3-5) and Chris Gentles had two RBI apiece for PULHEIM. Marcel Brede (W 1-1) picked up the win, allowing two unearned runs in six innings. Sebastian Hammes (L 0-1) took the loss.
In the second game the HSV scored eight runs in the eighth to beat PULHEIM 11-2. Kody Hightower (W 1-1, 5 IP, 8 SO), who also picked up the win on the mound, highlighted the big inning with a grand slam. Alexander Harms drove in two. Joe Overby (L 0-1) gave up three runs in seven innings for the loss.
Pulheim Gophers – Bonn Capitals 5-14, 21-0
Two offensive oriented games saw the people on Monday in Pulheim. In game one BONN’s hurler Tim Henkenjohann recovered from his loss on Saturday against the ALLIGATORS and struck out 17 in a complete game to lead his team to a 14-5 victory. Andreas Kolbe, Sebastian Hammes, Ossamma Hammouda, Sebastian Theobald and Chris Gerlach pitched for the GOPHERS, but couldn’t stop the CAPS offense.
The second game was much different. O’B Taylor, in his first game on the mound since six years, silenced the bats of BONN and led the GOPHERS to a 21-0 shutout, their biggest win in team history. Sebastian Jaap, Philip Spade and Joe Overby hit homeruns. It was the most lopsided loss for the CAPITALS in 15 years Bundesliga.
