Recaps: Media Monks RCH finally win

Media Monks RCH – L&D Amsterdam Pirates 0-10, 0-6, 9-1

After being shut out twice to open the series against the PIRATES and having lost the first 15 games of the season, RCH finally got into the win column. They stunned AMSTERDAM in the final on Sunday with a 9-1 victory behind two RBI each of Anthony Sandstrom and Jakub Malik, scoring all nine runs in the first three innings. Chris Mowday silenced the bats of the reigning champion, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks in a complete game. He struck out eight.

In the first two matches it was the turn of the L&D pitchers to dominate. On Thursday Nick Stuifbergen and two relievers held the MEDIA MONKS to three hits and two walks in a 10-0 shutout. Stuifbergen struck out eight. Fausto Alvarez and Kenny Berkenbosch combined for six RBI. On Saturday Adam Blackley struck out eleven in six scoreless innings to lead the PIRATES to a 6-0 shutout.

Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam – DOOR Neptunus 1-0, 7-4, 1-11 (8)

In a duel between the two Rotterdam based clubs in the Dutch Hoofdklasse, the underdog took the win in the three-game series against the European Baseball heavyweight. On Thursday Rubinet Koko scored the lone run of the night after a single by Rodney Michel to defeat NEPTUNUS, after both starting pitchers were locked into a duel on the mound. Rob Cordemans gave up eight hits and four walks in seven innings, but held DOOR scoreless. He struck out seven. National team colleague Diegomar Markwell allowed just two hits and two bb on the other side, while striking out nine in eight innings.

Two days later SPARTA/FEYENOORD pulled off another surprise win, scoring six runs in the first three innings en route to a 7-4 win at the NEPTUNUS ballpark. Eldrion Regina had the hit of the day with a three-run triple. DOOR got some payback in the series final on Sunday, using a six-run fourth to avoid the sweep with an 11-1 win. Matt McGraw, Jeroen Sluijter and Andy Leer had two RBI apiece.

Corendon Kinheim – ADO 4-1, 3-2, 14-6

After a struggling start into the season, KINHEIM has recovered and is climbing the ladder since. This weekend they beat up ADO for three wins, moving past SPARTA/FEYENOORD into fourth place of the Hoofdklasse standings. In game one David Bergman struck out eight in eight innings to lead CORENDON to a 4-1 win. Danny Rombley went three-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI. Dirk van’t Klooster drove in two. On Saturday they won game two 3-2 behind a ninth-inning RBI triple by Rene Cremer, who put them up 3-1, as ADO tried to come back in the bottom of the frame, leaving three men on after Niels Weis singled in Rene Verbrugge to cut the deficit to a run. In game three on Sunday three homeruns by Danny Rombley, Tjerk Smeets and Bryan Engelhardt were enough to help KINHEIM to a 14-6 victory. Smeets had three hits, three runs and four RBI in the match.

Mr. Cocker HCAW – Konica Minolta Pioniers 1-11 (8), 8-3

HCAW and the PIONIERS split the first two games of their series, as the third was rained out and rescheduled for Tuesday, May 19. In opener on Thursday, Ryan Murphy struck out nine in six solid innings to lead KONICA MINOLTA to an 11-1 win. Glenn Romney scored four times. Mark Duursma homered. On Saturday it was the turn for German pitcher Andre Hughes to lead MR COCKER to an 8-3 win with seven-plus solid innings. He received five runs of early run support in the second on five hits and two errors.
