Northern Division:
Bonn Capitals – Dohren Wild Farmers 13-6, 5-3
The Capitals ended their losing streak with a sweep over the Wild Farmers, solidifying third place in the northern division standings of the Baseball-Bundesliga. Even though they had to play without Tim Henkenjohann, Bonn won game one by a score of 13-6. They put six runs on the board in the first two frames, but Dohren countered with five in the third. A six-run Caps rally in the seventh sealed the victory. The 14-year-old Luca Patschke got the win after pitching five innings of strong relief, allowing just a solo homerun and a walk. Ernie Nsien had hit a grand slam for Bonn in the second. In game two Bryce Schoening out-dueled Vince DeCoito and led Bonn to a 5-3 win. Schoening struck out seven. Dohren tried to come back from an early 0-5 deficit, but a two-run rally in the eighth was too little too late.
HSV Stealers – Dortmund Wanderers 4-10, 0-4
The Wanderers stunned the Stealers on Saturday with a pair of wins, closing the gap towards fourth place in the standings. Dortmund scored in seven of the nine frames in game one en route to a 10-4 win. Trevor Howell went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI. In the second match Matt Kemp went the distance in a 4-0 shutout, giving up just five hits and two walks, while striking out twelve. Dortmund scored all four runs in the last two innings. Michael Gollan crossed the plate twice.
Paderborn Untouchables – Cologne Cardinals 11-3, 17-0
The Untouchables out-scored the Cardinals 38-3 in a doubleheader on Sunday, improving to 12-4 for the season. In game one they put seven runs on the board through the first four innings against Moritz Sckaer, who is back from college in the US. Eugen Heilmann picked up the win with eight solid innings. In the second match Daniel Meier and Bjoern Schonlau (grand slam) hit homeruns in a 17-0 rout.
The doubleheader between the Solingen Alligators and the Pulheim Gophers was rained out.
Southern Division
Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – Mannheim Tornados 5-7 (11), 11-8
The Tornados ended the 14-game winning streak by the Buchbinder Legionaere with a 7-5 win last Friday. Dennis Kelly, who was part of a triple play earlier in the game, hit a two-run homerun in the top of the eleventh to secure the win. Mannheim had tied the contest in the ninth on a RBI single by Sascha Lutz. Marvin Appiah drove in two. Ludwig Glaser stole home for Regensburg. In the second match on Saturday Regensburg used a seven-run rally in the fifth to erase a 2-6 deficit en route to an 11-8 win.
Mainz Athletics – Neuenburg Atomics 5-3, 2-1
The Athletics ended their eight-game losing streak with a sweep over the Atomics. After taking an early 2-0 lead in game one they put it away with three runs in the sixth, winning 5-3. Manuel Moeller allowed one hit and a whopping nine walks in five scoreless innings for the win. Moritz von der Brelie hit a two-run double of the ninth for Neuenburg. In the second match the Atomics led 1-0 going into the ninth thanks to a third-inning homerun by Rob Piscatelli. But Mainz tied the game on a RBI double by Martin Kipphan and won it 2-1 when Nicholas Weichert got hit by pitch with the bases loaded. Alex Aucoin took the loss after allowing just two runs (1 ER) on six hits and two walks in 8 1/3 innings, while striking out ten.
Saarlouis Hornets – Heidenheim Heidekoepfe 3-14, 3-11
The Heidekoepfe concluded preparations for the European Cup with two lopsided wins in Saarlouis. In game one Simon Guehring hit a homerun in the second and Heidenheim scored eight runs in the last two frames to blow the game wide open. They won by a score of 14-3. In the second match they prevailed 11-3. Again they did most of the damage in the last two frames, plating six runs. Peter Dankerl got the start and the win, as Dusty Bergman stayed home and received some extra rest before Brno. Brandon Taylor collected four hits and six RBI in the doubleheader.
Gauting Indians – Haar Disciples 3-1
The Gauting Indians are now tied for fourth place in the southern division standings after beating the Haar Disciples 3-1 in game one on Sunday. Johannes Jung had the decisive hit of the afternoon with a three-run homerun in the third. Dominik Hartinger won the pitcher’s duel against Ted Gieschen and Gregor Klinc and allowed just five hits and a run in nine innings, striking out nine. The second game was cancelled due to rain.
