Recaps: Kinheim wins two out of three against Neptunus

Corendon Kinheim – DOOR Neptunus 2-1, 3-4, 3-1

KINHEIM won the series against NEPTUNUS 2-1 last weekend in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. In game one on Thursday a RBI single by Rafael Jozefa in the sixth was the difference in a 2-1 victory. Before that Bryan Engelhardt (KIN) and Raily Legito (NEP) had exchanged homeruns. On Saturday DOOR built up a 4-1 lead after five innings, highlighted by a two-run single by Eugene Kingsale in the second en route to a 4-3 win. CORENDON had the tying run on third in the ninth with one out, but Dirk van’t Klooster flied and Jason Halman struck out. In the rubber game on Sunday KINHEIM prevailed 3-1 thanks to a two-run homerun by Engelhardt in a three-run seventh.

L&D Amsterdam Pirates – Konica Minolta Pioniers 4-4 (11), 1-2, 1-0

Ties are getting common in the Dutch Hoofdklasse this season, as the PIRATES and PIONIERS opened their three-game series on Thursday evening with a 4-4 score. Kenny Berkenbosch scored twice for AMSTERDAM. Zair Koeiman went three-for-five with a RBI. Mervin Gario collected three runs for KONICA MINOLTA. Norbert Lokhorst drove in two. In the second match on Saturday, the team from Hoofddorp scored a run each in the eighth and ninth en route to a 2-1 win. They tied the contest with a sac fly by Jefferson Muzo and won it on an error. L&D left five men on in the last two frames and couldn’t come back. On Sunday the PIRATES were victorious 1-0 due to a RBI single by Koeiman in the seventh. Frank van Heijst, Raban Schalm and Pim Walsma combined to pitch a four-hit shutout.

Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam – Mr. Cocker HCAW 3-1, 3-4, 10-0 (8)

SPARTA/FEYENOORD won two out of three games against HCAW. In game one on Friday the team from Rotterdam got eight solid innings out of starting pitcher Gregory Gustina, plus offensive support of Nick Eppinga (2 runs) and Eugene Henson (2 RBI) in a 3-1 win. In the second match on Saturday MR COCKER used a three-run homerun by Ricky Daal in the seventh for a 4-3 victory. SPARTA/FEYENOORD tried to come back, but was stopped right in time. They got payback on Sunday, crushing HCAW 10-0 in eight innings. Dimitri Leon drove in three, while four players scored twice.

ADO – Media Monks RCH 8-2, 3-1 (10), 6-3

ADO ended its 17-game losing streak with a three-game sweep against RCH, leaving eighth place in the Hoofdklasse standings. In the first game on Thursday Aeden McQueary, Koen Meershoek and Martijn Riphagen combined to drive in seven in an 8-2 win. Jakub Malik collected three hits for the MEDIA MONKS. Two days later the team from The Hague tied the game in the ninth with a RBI single by Michel Korzeniewski and won it 3-1 thanks to RBI singles by Meershoek and Riphagen in the tenth. Rene Verbrugge and Shurty Tremus each went three-for-four with a triple, a run scored and a combined three RBI in a 6-3 win to complete the sweep. Reggie Valpoort drove in two.
