T&A SAN MARINO completed the sweep over NETTUNO on Saturday in the Italian Baseball League, ending the championship hopes for DANESI. They are now three games out in fifth place with three games to go in the regular season.

In the afternoon game SAN MARINO won 4-1 thanks to a complete game by Tiago da Silva. He allowed just three hits, a run and two walks, while striking out seven. Ulrich Snijders homered for last year’s champion. Seth La Fera drove in two. Renato Imperiali hit a solo homerun for NETTUNO. Remigio Leal took the loss after 6 1/3 solid innings. He gave up five hits, three runs (2 ER) and a bb.

In the night cap of the doubleheader SAN MARINO used a seven-run rally in the fifth to overcome a 0-6 deficit en route to an 8-6 win. Simone Albanese highlighted the offensive surge with a three-run double. Francesco Imperiali drove in two. Dewis Navarro (3 RBI) and Paolino Ambrosino homered for DANESI. Luca Martignoni (SMA) gave up six runs (4 ER) on seven hits in four innings. Matteo Tonellato picked up the win in relief. Carlos Richetti got hit with the loss, conceding eight hits, seven runs and one walk in five innings. He struck out seven, but imploded in the fifth.

CARIPARMA completed the sweep over REGGIO EMILIA with an 11-0 shutout on Saturday evening, solidifying fourth place in the standings. Roberto Corradini issued just three hits and a walk in six scoreless innings for the win. Orlando Munoz collected three hits and three RBI. Three players scored twice for PARMA. Daustin Nielson was charged with seven hits, five runs and four BB in five innings.
De Angelis Godo – Telemarket Rimini 6-4, 1-14

GODO scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead and added two more runs in the sixth on their way to a 6-4 win over RIMINI on Saturday afternoon. Lino Connell and Daniele Malengo scored twice for DE ANGELIS. Panagiotis Sikaras allowed just three runs on nine hits and two walks in six innings for the win. He struck out seven. Chris Di Roma took the loss after 3 2/3 innings, three hits, four runs and five bb.

The PIRATES got payback in the evening game, pounding out 15 hits in a 14-1 victory. Phil Lo Cascio, Eddie Rios and Lorenzo Avagnina combined for ten RBI. Five players scored twice. Felix Escalona drove in the lone GODO run in the eighth. Sandy Patrone picked up the win after six scoreless five-hit innings. Lino Luciani surrendered six hits, five runs (4 ER) and three bb in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Fortitudo Bologna – Montepaschi Grosseto 3-0, 6-5, 11-5
After rain postponed the first two games of the series on Thursday and Friday, BOLOGNA and GROSSETO had a busy weekend with FORTITUDO winning all three games.

Jesus Matos struck out nine batters in eight scoreless innings on Saturday afternoon to lead BOLOGNA to a 3-0 shutout. He gave up just five hits, throwing 64 of his 89 pitches for strikes. The offense needed until the seventh to provide him with some support, putting a run on the board thanks to a RBI double by Juan Angrisano. One period later Claudio Liverziani extended the lead with a two-run single. Juan Figueroa took the loss despite punching out ten batters in seven innings. He issued three hits, a run and two walks.

In the night game on Saturday, FORTITUDO won 6-5 on a two-run homerun by Claudio Liverziani in the bottom of the seventh. GROSSETO had taken a lead in the top of the sixth on a pair of errors. Liverziani finished the match with four RBI overall. He also scored twice. Yulman Ribeiro (BOL) gave up five hits and five runs (3 ER) in six innings. Chris Cooper (GRO) conceded five hits, four runs and two bb in six innings as well. Alessandro Ularetti received the win, Yovany D’Amico the loss.

On Sunday morning at 10am CET the two teams met again and BOLOGNA completed the 24-hour sweep with a 11-5 victory. They took a commanding 10-0 lead after three frames and cruised to their 29th win of the season afterwards. Richard Austin hit a homerun and drove in four for FORTITUDO. Four players crossed the plate twice. Jairo Ramos homered for the ORIOLES. Fabio Betto allowed two runs on three hits in five innings for an easy win. Riccardo de Santis allowed six hits, six runs and four bb in just two innings for the loss.
