CB Viladecans swept its two-game series against San Inazio Bilbao last weekend in the Spanish Division de Honor. In game one Fabian Marquez (W 2-8) issued just one run on six hits and a whopping eight walks in eight innings to lead CB to a 3-1 win. He struck out seven. David Porcar drove in two of the three runs. Fidel Mane Torres (L 7-7) went six innings to take the loss.

Sunday’s starter Pol Llopis (W 7-6) hadn’t much better control either, but still got somehow the job done, as Viladecans won 7-5. They scored four runs in the eighth and stopped a rally by Bilbao in the ninth. Llopis conceded four hits, two runs and eight runs in 6 2/3 innings. Kelvin Marianucci doubled twice and drove in three for San Inazio. Alberto Magallon (L 6-6) allowed six hits, three runs (1 ER) and three bb in six innings for the loss.
FC Barcelona – El Llano 10-0 (7), 15-0 (5)

With the lopsided sweep over El Llano and the split by CB Sant Boi in Tenerife, the FC Barcelona moved into first place in the Spanish Division de Honor. In game one on Saturday Oscar Gimenez (W 8-0) allowed just a second-inning single and three walks in six scoreless innings to lead Barca to a 10-0 shutout. Orlando Diaz drove in three. Adrian Borges (L 0-6) took the loss.

In game two Barcelona celebrated its second one-hit shutout in a few hours. Pedro Pablo Belmonte (W 8-1) gave up only a leadoff single in the fifth to lead his team to a 15-0 rout. It was the only base runner by El Llano in the game. At the plate Miguel Mora homered, scored twice and drove in two. Orlando Diaz went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. Juan Garcia (L 0-1), who also had the lone hit for his team, took the loss.
Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz – CB Sant Boi 3-4, 4-2

CB Sant Boi had to settle for a split in Tenerife and dropped to second in the standings in Spanish Baseball. In game one William Domero scored on a throwing error by Nestor Perez to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth, leading Sant Boi to a 4-3 win. The Marlins had tied the game one frame earlier on a RBI double by Richard Montiel. Nguyen Boulet scored all three runs for Puerto Cruz. Junior Guerra (W 8-1) gave up seven hits, three runs and a walk in nine innings, striking out nine. Leslie Nacar (L 8-5) suffered the loss after issuing nine hits, four runs (1 ER) and a bb in eight-plus innings. He struck out three. He was replaced by Antonio Noguera after Domero had reached with a single in the ninth.

On Sunday the reigning champion struck back, celebrating a 4-2 win. After both teams had scored once in the first two frames, the Tenerife Marlins took the lead for good in the fourth when Richard Montiel scored on a passed ball and Javier Flores crossed the plate on a single by Leslie Nacar. Solo homeruns by Lesther Galvan (MPC) and Marc Carrillo (BOI) in the seventh and eighth didn’t change anything. Ivan Granados (W 11-2) went the distance, allowing six hits, two runs and four walks, while striking out ten. Jose Estebin Cruz (L 6-2) conceded five hits, three runs and six bb in 5 1/3 innings.
Astros Valencia – Halcones de Vigo 5-3, 9-0

The Astros Valencia won both games against Halcones de Vigo on Sunday in the Division de Honor, improving to 14-18 for the season. In game one John Scott Dunn (W 8-7) pitched five brilliant innings of one-hit, two-walk relief to lead Valencia to a 5-3 win. He struck out seven after replacing starter Norman Cowes in the fifth. A two-run single by Sandel Cuevas in the bottom of the frame put the Astros in front. Jose Morales hit a two-run homerun for Halcones. Roman Carrasco (L 4-6) issued ten hits, five runs (1 ER) and four bb in eight innings, striking out twelve.

The Astros completed the sweep with a 9-0 shutout in game two. Jordi Valles (W 5-6) conceded three hits and three walks in nine scoreless innings, striking out seven. Wilmer Oviedo and Edward Alexander combined to drive in four. Diego Corvalan (L 1-7) surrendered four hits, four runs (2 ER) and eight bb in four innings.
