DOOR Neptunus – Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam 9-1, 11-0 (8), 2-5
The two clubs from Rotterdam squared off this weekend in the Dutch Hoofdklasse with leader NEPTUNUS winning two of the three games. On Friday Eugene Kingsale, Matt McGraw and Raily Legito combined for six RBI in a 9-1 win. One day later Kevin Heijstek and Jorian van Acker threw eight scoreless three-hit innings in an 11-0 shutout. Benjamin Dille collected four hits, including a triple. Lennart Koster drove in four. SPARTA/FEYENOORD avoided the sweep with a 5-2 victory on Sunday, staying in the race for the fourth spot in the playoffs. Gregory Gustina went the distance for the win.
Corendon Kinheim – ADO 9-1, 11-1 (7), 8-1
KINHEIM out-scored ADO 28-3 over three games this past weekend and solidified the fourth spot in the standings. In game one of the series last Thursday, Danny Rombley homered and Jason Halman drove in four in a 9-1 victory. David Bergman struck out nine in seven strong innings for the win. Two days later Danny Rombley hit another homerun and CORENDON beat ADO 11-1 in seven innings. Bryan Engelhardt got three RBIs. Duko Jansen gave up just one unearned run on three hits in seven innings. KINHEIM completed the sweep with an 8-1 win on Sunday behind three RBIs by Dirk van’t Klooster.
L&D Amsterdam Pirates – MediaMonks RCH 2-0, 10-2, 2-1
The PIRATES bolstered second place in the standings with three wins over RCH, though two of the games were pretty close. In game one Adam Blackley struck out nine in seven scoreless innings to lead L&D to a 2-0 shutout. He allowed just three hits and two walks. On Saturday the offense took over with Wesley Connor showing the way by going four-for-four with two doubles and three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. He also drove in a batter and walked once. On Sunday they needed a RBI single by Sidney de Jong in the seventh to prevail 2-1.
Konica Minolta Pioniers – Mr. Cocker HCAW 9-1, 4-2, 13-8
The PIONIERS also strengthened their position going into the final week of the season after sweeping HCAW. On Thursday Mervin Gario scored three times and Mark Duursma drove in three in a 9-1 win. Ryan Murphy pitched seven strong innings for the win, allowing just one run on four hits. The second game was a lot closer on Saturday, as KONICA MINOLTA needed an error in the seventh and a sac fly by Bart Sabel in the ninth to score the decisive runs in the seventh and eighth of a 4-2 victory. MR COCKER had tied the contest in the sixth on a solo homerun by Jason Rees. On Sunday they won a slugfest 13-8 behind three RBI each of Norbert Lokhorst and Mark-Jan Moorman. Rees homered again and combined with Randy Daal for six RBI. Siemen Korff collected four hits for HCAW in the loss.
