DOOR Neptunus – ADO 4-0, 10-0 (7), 11-0 (7)
DOOR NEPTUNUS solidified first place in the Dutch Hoofdklasse with three shutouts against ADO. In game one on Thursday Diegomar Markwell allowed just three hits and two walks over seven innings in a 4-0 win. He struck out five. In the second match on Saturday Kevin Heijstek conceded just four hits in seven scoreless innings, striking out three. A five-run rally in the seventh ended the 10-0 victory due to ten-run rule. In the series final on Sunday Dushan Ruzic struck out seven in five innings, giving up two hits and a walk. Again the offense ended the contest earlier due to mercy rule by a final score of 11-0.
Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam – Konica Minolta Pioniers 0-6, 5-2 (11), 6-5 (11)
KONICA MINOLTA PIONIERS won the first match against SPARTA/FEYENOORD in dominating fashion, but lost games two and three each in the eleventh frame. In the series opener on Thursday Ryan Murphy pitched eight scoreless periods in a 6-0 shutout, allowing just five hits and a walk. On Saturday a pair of errors led to runs through Rubinet Koko and Nick Eppinga in the top of the eleventh in a 5-2 win for ROTTERDAM. Rodney Michel finalized the score with a RBI single. One day later a RBI fielder’s choice by Gregory Gustina in the second extra inning ended the contest in walk-off style for a 6-5 SPARTA/FEYENOORD victory. Both teams had scored in the tenth, after ROTTERDAM’s Eugene Henson had tied the contest in the ninth on a wild pitch.
Mr. Cocker HCAW – MediaMonks RCH 10-1, 2-3 (10), 3-8
HCAW won the first game of the series against RCH with a score of 10-1, but lost the other two on the weekend. In match number one Sytse Visbeen went four-for-six with four RBI. Kevin Miner pitched seven strong innings. On Saturday the MEDIAMONKS won 3-2 on a walk-off RBI single by Ricky Daal in the bottom of the tenth. Moments earlier Floris Morang had tied the game on an error by the first baseman after Adrian Anthony had put MR COCKER up in front on an error by the catcher in the top of the frame. Andre Hughes (HCAW) had allowed one run on seven hits and two walks in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out six. In the rubber game RCH prevailed again and captured their first series win of the year. Morang and Giovanni Valmont combined to go seven-for-ten with four runs scored and two RBI in an 8-3 victory. Bart Gabriels collected four hits for HCAW.
