DOOR Neptunus – Konica Minolta Pioniers 1-0, 3-1, 3-1

DOOR NEPTUNUS defended first place in the Dutch Hoofdklasse standings with a three-game sweep against KONICA MINOLTA PIONIERS, which was tied with the club from Rotterdam last week. In game one on Friday evening NEPTUNUS needed just a fourth-inning run by Raily Legito after a RBI by Lennart Koster to win 1-0. Diegomar Markwell struck out nine in eight scoreless innings, allowing four hits and three walks. Ryan Murphy took the loss, despite giving up just one run on six hits in eight innings too. He had seven strikeouts.

DOOR completed the sweep with two 3-1 victories on the weekend. On Saturday Kevin Heijstek allowed just three hits, a run and a walk in seven innings. Matt McGraw went three-for-four with a run and a RBI. On Sunday Dushan Ruzic got the start and punched out ten in seven innings, giving up four hits and a run. Roy Seltenrijch had three hits in three at bats and scored a run.

L&D Amsterdam – ADO 15-2 (7), 5-2, 12-1 (7)

After three losses in a row and the drop to third place in the standings, reigning champion L&D ASMTERDAM got back into victory lane. They won all three games of the series against ADO and stay percentage-points behind NEPTUNUS, but now in second place. In the first match on Thursday, Bas de Jong hit for the cycle with five hits, four runs scored and five RBI in a commanding 15-2 victory. Nick Stuifbergen allowed just four hits in seven innings for the complete game win.

On Saturday Fausto Alvarez collected three hits and two RBI in a 5-2 win. Maikel Benner and Sidney de Jong scored two runs apiece. Adam Blackley picked up the win after seven strong innings, issuing just two hits and a walk. He struck out eight in his final start before the European Champions Cup Final Four in Barcelona. One day later the PIRATES hit four homeruns en route to a 12-1 win in seven innings. Kenny Berkenbosch homered twice, scored four times and drove in two. Bas de Jong and Fausto Alvarez also drove the ball over the outfield fence. The two middle-of-the-order guys combined for six RBI. Shurty Tremus accounted for the lone ADO run with a solo shot in the first.

Corendon Kinheim – HCAW Mr. Cocker 7-3, 4-8, 6-0

CORENDON KINHEIM lost one game in the standings towards the top two teams this week, by winning only two out of three against HCAW MR COCKER. On Thursday evening Jason Halman had three hits, a run and two RBI in a 7-3 win. David Bergman gave up just one run on seven hits and a walk in seven innings for the win. MR COCKER rallied on Saturday for six unanswered runs in the last three frames in a 8-4 win. Jason Rees hit a solo homerun and scored twice. Randy Daal and Jurien Overman had two RBIs apiece. Andre Hughes started and allowed four hits, four runs (1 ER) and three bb in 5 2/3 innings, striking out nine. Kevin Miner picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings of three-hit relief. In the rubber match of the series, KINHEIM received seven strong innings from Duko Jansen in a 6-0 shutout. He gave up just two hits and three walks, while striking out three. Dirk van’t Klooster went three-for-five with a triple and two RBI. CORENDON also will make the trip to Barcelona, Spain next weekend.

Media Monks RCH – Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam 6-2, 0-0 (12), 1-6

We first take a look at games one and three before looking at the second game. On Thursday RCH won their third game of the season by a score of 6-2. Jakub Malik had three hits, two runs and three RBI to lead the offense. On Sunday SPARTA/FEYENOORD earned the split in the series with a 6-1 victory. Imco Rudolph had had four hits, while Eldrion Regina drove in three. Rob Cordemans pitched seven innings for the win, allowing just four hits and two walks. He struck out seven.

Now to game two of the three-game set. We already know that in Dutch Baseball ties are possible, as no new innings will be started when the clock approaches 11pm CET. Nonetheless the starting time for the ridiculous 0-0 tie after twelve innings between RCH and SPARTA/FEYENOORD was 2pm CET in the afternoon, so we have no idea, why this exciting pitcher’s duel was called. The MEDIA MONKS had plenty of chances to decide the game, leaving 16 runner on base. Chris Mowday stayed on the mound for eleven innings, allowing just six hits and a walk. He struck out eleven. Tim Roodenburg conceded four hits and three bb in seven innings for the club from Rotterdam.
