Jesus Matos struck out eight batters in seven scoreless innings to lead BOLOGNA to a 2-0 shutout over GROSSETO. Victor Moreno replaced him for the last two frames, debuting with four strikeouts, giving up one hit and a walk. Matos had allowed six hits. FORTITUDO scored the first run in the fourth on a double play groundball, plating Richard Austin. Two innings later Giovanni Pantaleoni doubled the lead, by scoring on a wild pitch. Juan Figueroa took the loss and conceded seven hits, two runs and one walk in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out nine.

PARMA also won game two of their series with REGGIO EMILIA, prevailing 3-1 on Friday evening. They took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run double by Davide Dallospedale. Alex Sambucci added an insurance run with a RBI single one frame later. PALFINGER had opened the scoring with a RBI single by Liviston Santaniello in the top of the third. Marco Grifantini (PAR) needed 93 pitches to get through 4 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, one run and four walks. Brian Scarcella replaced him and picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings of one-hit, one-walk relief. Gregory Palanzo took the loss, giving up four hits, three runs (1 ER) and two bb in six innings.

RIMINI used two big innings to crush GODO for a second day in a row. They scored six runs in the fourth and seven in the seventh en route to a 15-3 pounding. On Thursday they won by a score of 8-1. Mario Chiarini and Luigi Carrozza led the attack with three RBI each. Chiarini also scored three times. Each of the nine batters in the starting lineup reached base and scored a run, seven of them had RBIs. Felix Escalona had two RBI for DE ANGELIS, which actually led 3-1 after the top of the third, but couldn’t hold on to it. Chris Di Roma (RIM) allowed four hits, three runs and two walks in three innings. Buddy Bengel picked up the win with four scoreless innings of relief. GODO’s starter Brandon Camardese was charged with seven hits, seven runs and three bb in 3 2/3 innings for the loss.

SAN MARINO won game one of the three-game series against NETTUNO 5-2 on Friday. They took the lead for good in the top of the seventh on RBI singles by Max Di Biase and Francesco Imperiali. Martin Vazquez’ run on an error in the ninth sealed the win. DANESI had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when Giuseppe Mazzanti drove in Abraham Nunez with a double. T&A needed until the top of the sixth to turn the score into their favor with RBI singles by Di Biase and Riccardo Suardi. However NETTUNO tied the game one last time in the bottom of the frame on a solo homerun by Nunez. But the Italian champion of 2008 had more left and prevailed in the end. Luis Ramirez struck out eight batters in four innings of relief and got the win. He replaced Horacio Estrada with two runners in scoring position and no outs in the bottom of the sixth. He escaped the jam by striking out the side on 13 pitches. NETTUNO’s Jeff Farnsworth struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, three runs and a walk for the loss.
