Recaps: Challengers, Flyers split Doubleheader on Sunday

by JB Tucker, Therwil Flyers

Zurich Challengers – Therwil Flyers 15-6, 0-6

Game One

The Therwil Flyers suffered an unusual loss in the first game of the Sunday doubleheader. The Flyers were leading 6-3 after six and a half innings before surrendering 12 runs in the 7th and 8th innings combined. Most of the runs came in the 9 run eighth, where the Flyers had several defensive miscues and the Challengers had timely hitting. Stefan Koller started the game, but did not factor into the decision, going 7 innings giving up 6 runs, all earned. Receiving the loss was Hide Oshima, who went two thirds of an inning giving up 7 runs, 6 earned. Daniel Eichenberger led the Flyers offensively going 2-4 with an RBI and a walk. Final for game one was 15-6 in favor of the Challengers.

Game Two

Game two of the double header was dominated by Flyers pitcher Lukas Croton. Croton pitched a complete game shutout giving up only 3 hits while striking out 7. Croton did a great job of mixing locations and pitch speed to keep the Challengers hitters off balance the whole day. Offensively for the Flyers Michel “Cake” La Torre led the way going 2-3 with 2 RBI. Final for game two was 6-0, in favor of the Flyers.
