Cariparma avoided the sweep against UGF Bologna in the Italian Baseball League with a 3-2 win on Saturday night. After trailing 0-2 for most of the game, RBI singles by Manuel Gasparri, Stefano De Simoni and Marco Yepez plated three runs in the top of the ninth to turn the score around. Joe Mazzuca and Livinsto Santaniello had driven in the two runs for Fortitudo. Fabio Betto (BOL) allowed nine hits in seven scoreless innings. Roberto Corradini (PAR) issued ten hits, two runs and four bb in also seven frames. Pedro Orta received the win, Fabio Milano the loss.

Montepaschi Grosseto evened the series with T&A San Marino on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 nail biter after twelve innings. The Titans had the better start into the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a sac fly by Max De Biase. But it was their last run they would score in the contest. The Orioles’ offense wasn’t much better until two outs in the top of the ninth, when Leonardo Mazzanti tied the game with a RBI single. A RBI single by Ivanon Coffie secured the win for Grosseto in the twelfth. Tiago Da Silva (SMA) allowed four hits, a run and two walks in eight-plus innings. Chris Cooper (GRO) issued four hits, a run and three bb in seven innings. Yovany D’Amico got the win, Mattia Salsi the loss.

T&A had not much trouble scoring in the night cap of the doubleheader and won the rubber match 6-1. After Max De Biase (SMA) and Andrea Sgnaolin (GRO) had exchanged RBI singles in the first and second, Dean Rovinelli regained the lead for San Marino, when he crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second. They added four insurance runs between the sixth and eighth to secure the victory. Carlos Duran hit a solo homerun. Ardley Jansen went 3-for-3 with two walks and a run scored for the Titans. Gregory Palanzo (W) gave up just one run on five hits and two walks in eight innings. Riccardo De Santis (L) was charged with six hits, four runs and three bb in 5 2/3 innings.
Catania Warriors – Telemarket Rimini 7-8, 0-10 (8)

Telemarket Rimini won game two in Palermo by a final score of 8-7 in the afternoon session of the twin bill. After adding two runs in the top of the eighth the Pirates led comfortably 8-2, but the Catania Warriors plated five runs in the last two frames to make things interesting. However trailing only by a run with one out in the ninth, Giuseppe Sciacca was picked off at third base by reliever Mauro Schiavoni and Frances Rosa Colombo grounded out to end the game.
Jack Santora, Danny Gonzalez and Clinton Balgera combined to drive in six runs for Rimini. Lorenzo Avagnina scored three times. Perez Rosario hit a solo homerun for the Warriors. Rolexis Molina went 4-for-5 with two RBI. Ramon Tavarez crossed the plate thrice. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (W) gave up six hits, two runs and two walks in six innings. Orlando Yntema (L) allowed eight hits, eight runs (7 ER) and six bb in seven-plus innings.

Telemarket completed the sweep with a lopsided 10-0 shutout in the evening. This time the Warriors had no chance to come back. The Pirates decided things quickly, as they scored eight runs in the first three innings. On the mound Sandy Patrone (W) only gave up a third-inning single and a walk in six scoreless innings, striking out seven. Michele Quattrini completed the two-hitter. Giuseppe D’Ignoti (L) surrendered ten hits, eight runs and two bb in 2 2/3 innings.
De Angelis Godo Knights – Danesi Nettuno 1-2, 5-6

Lino Connell homered in the third and scored the winning run in the sixth on a RBI single by Vincent Parisi, as Nettuno beat the Godo Knights 2-1 in the afternoon game. Erik Gelli had tied the contest in the third on a sac fly by Paolo Tanesini. Mark La Macchia (W) gave up three hits, a run and three walks in five innings. Remigio Leal closed it out with four brilliant innings of one-hit, one-walk relief. Panagiotis Sikaras (L) struck out twelve batters in seven innings, issuing six hits, two runs and a bb.

Nettuno needed RBI singles by Igor Schiavetti and Dewis Navarro (3 RBI) in the top of the ninth to beat De Angelis 6-5 in the night game and to complete the sweep. The Knights had taken a 5-4 lead on a two-run homerun by Carlos Villalobos. It was his fifth of the 2010 season. Carlos Richetti (NET) surrendered six hits, three runs and a walk in five-plus innings. Francesco Cozzolino (GOD) conceded three hits, two runs and three bb in five-plus innings. Massimiliano Masin picked up the win. Roberto Cabalisti took the loss.
