Recaps: Benches clear between UVV and L&D Amsterdam

Mr. Cocker HCAW split the weekend series against ADO in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. In the Saturday game Mr. Cocker took a fast 8-0 lead after eight innings en route to a 14-0 shutout in eight. Lennart Koster scored twice and drove in three. Wesley Bernardus and Michael Pluijmers crossed the plate three times apiece. Mitchel Koot collected four hits. Kevin Roovers (W) and Dennis Burgersdijk combined to allowed just three hits in eight scoreless innings. Nick Martin (L) was charged with eleven hits, five runs (4 ER) and two bb in 4 1/3 innings.

On Sunday the road team prevailed again, as ADO stunned HCAW with a 7-5 victory avoiding the sweep. The club from The Hague took a 7-0 lead midway through the sixth. Afterwards Mr. Cocker’s offense woke up and cut the deficit to two runs. But they couldn’t complete the comeback successfully. Gyenuar Lopez reached base four times for ADO. Juan Gonzalez had three hits for the host. Quincy Lambertina (W) issued three hits, three runs and eight walks in five-plus innings. Moises Melendez (L) struck out ten, but also conceded seven hits, four runs and two bb in 4 2/3 frames.

Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam – Corendon Kinheim 3-10, 6-11

Corendon Kinheim completed the sweep over Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam with a pair of wins on the weekend. In the Saturday affair Corendon scored five runs in the fourth on their way to a 10-3 win in Rotterdam. Dirk van’t Klooster had five hits, Rafael Jozefa four. Remco Draijer drove in three. Duko Jansen (W) allowed five hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings. Bobby Carrington (L) was charged with ten hits, seven runs and three bb in six.

One day later in Haarlem, Kinheim scored eight runs in the first four innings en route to an 11-6 win over Sparta/Feyenoord. Remco Draijer, Rene Cremer, Jason Halman and Rodney Michel had three hits apiece. Cremer and Halman scored thrice. Halman and Michel drove in three each. Halman also hit a homerun. Nick Veltkamp (W) gave up six hits, three runs (2 ER) and four bb in six innings. Gregory Gustina (L) issued twelve hits, eight runs and four walks in five innings.

DOOR Neptunus and the Vaessen Pioniers split their two games this weekend. On Saturday Eddie Aucoin (W) went the distance to lead the Pioniers to a 2-1 win in a nail biter. A walk-off RBI triple by Randy Reiph broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the ninth. Neptunus had tied the contest in the eighth on a RBI single by Eugene Kingsale. Aucoin allowed just one run on five hits in nine innings, striking out seven. Kevin Heijstek (NEP) gave up one run on six hits in seven frames. Arshwin Asjes (L) took the loss.

In the rubber match on Sunday DOOR Neptunus prevailed 10-1, blowing things wide open with a five-run rally in the seventh. Eugene Kingsale did most of the damage with three hits and four RBI. Kevin van Veen (W) allowed seven hits, an unearned run and three bb in five innings. Lars Huijer (L) issued seven hits, two runs (1 ER) and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.

UVV – L&D Amsterdam Pirates 12-7

UVV stunned leader L&D Amsterdam on Saturday with a 12-7 win, thanks to scoring eight runs in the first two innings. Shurty Tremus collected three hits and five RBI. Glenn Romney and Jirka Bliek combined to score six of the twelve runs. Sidney de Jong, Percy Isenia and Wesley Connor hit homeruns for the Pirates. Orlando Yntema (W) gave up five hits, five runs (4 ER) and two bb in 5 1/3 innings. Jos de Jong (L) conceded six hits, eight runs (6 ER) and three walks in 1 2/3 frames.

On Sunday both teams met again, but with bad ending. With UVV leading 14-7 against L&D Amsterdam, the benches cleared twice in the ninth inning. The umpiring crew decided to call the game. These were not real brawls, just some shouting matches according to newspaper reports from the Netherlands.
