Mister-Baseball continues to introduce the two candidates to succeed Dr. Harvey Schiller as IBAF. Yesterday we looked at their backgrounds. Today we take a look at the programs of Riccardo Fraccari and John C. Ostermeyer.
Riccardo Fraccari “Change – We must!”
Riccardo Fraccari’s program for his bid to become IBAF President was created under the motto that “Change is needed – The Environment in which IBAF operates has changed dramatically”. These are the main bullet points:
- IBAF must change its structure: Executive Committee must become the motor of change. Additionally the current continental organizations like CEB or COPABE should be transformed into branches of the International Baseball Federation like IBAF Europe or IBAF America.
- Creation of task forces for Marketing, Media, Baseball Operations, Legal, Member Federations, Development, Coaches and Umpires, Scorers and Statistics, Olympic Reinstatement, Sports and Environment
- IBAF must reinvent its own Competitions and Tournaments
- IBAF must have a real and concrete policy on development: (Courses for Baseball promoters, sending envoy coaches, equipment donation programs, Regional Baseball Academies…)
- IBAF must reduce spending and increase revenue
- IBAF must truly be transparent

John C. Ostermeyer “Target 2020. A new Vision for World Baseball”
John C. Ostermeyer’s program, called “Target 2020” is based on five key pillars: Development, Communications, Events, Marketing and Governance. These are the main bullet points:
- Development of new players, new coaches, new leagues and national federations, new events and tournaments, new communication and new business (World Development Workshop (hosted by IBAF, creating targets for each continent,…) and Setting Targets (example: Over 1,000,000 Junior Players in Europe by 2020,…))
- IBAF Website has to become prime source of International Baseball (Communication, 10-year IBAF event calendar, current international news, local information, online data, online training)
- Creation of own Baseball Television Channel (Online streaming of IBAF Events, live access to national league games of its members federations, latest Baseball news, online training courses…)
- IBAF events and tournaments must be more professionally presented, promoted and marketed. Involvement of professional players is crucial.
- IBAF Marketing of events, programs, licensed products, IBAF-branded Baseball equipment, online shop
- IBAF must maintain goal of Baseball returning to Olympics
- Interest commercial entities to become financial partners of IBAF due to access to millions of Baseball players and supporters, IBAF tournaments and events, the Baseball TV Channel in hopes to support national federations financially
- IBAF Government needs to be restructured (Involvement of Professional Leagues, Encourage involvement of specialized commissions in Baseball business, development, events and tournaments…)
- Relationship between IBAF and Professional Baseball will form foundation of the future of World Baseball
