The European Cup Women “B” Softball Tournament will be held in San Marino from August 20-25. Ten fast-pitch teams featuring some of the best female softballers in Europe will be representing their respective clubs and national flags.
Group A consists of the Skovde Saints (Sweden)), Zurich Challengers (Swiss), Maroussi 2004 (Greece), Ballerup Vandals (Denmark), and the London Angels (Britain).
The Saints are leading the Swedish Softball League this season with 23 wins in 24 games. Robin FLIER, Priva MOHLEN, Ann-Sofie RICHARDSON, and Amanda KARLSSON are the top players.
The Challengers (9-7) fledgling softball program gains valuable international tournament experience. The squad is led by national team standouts Leandra SIMITOVIC and Alexia ZINGG.
The Vandals have won four straight Danish softball titles and is led by top hitter Anne BROLEY.
Group B will consist of Princ Zagreb (Croatia), Nika Dahl University (Ukraine), Titano Hornets (San Marino), Golovec Dragons (Slovenia), and the Trnava Panthers (Slovakia).
Zagreb advanced to the 2006 European Cup championship game where they lost to Carrousel of Russia. Ukranian softball team, Nika Dahl University, finished in third place. The Dragons won the 2006 Belgrade Trophy by defeating Princ Zagreb 7-1.
The Titano Hornets are led by Katie BOSCAROL, Alice FIORIO, Linda GOBBI, Eva MERLONI, and Simona CONTI while the Panthers of Trnava feature top players Karin MOLNAUROVA and Kika SZABOVA.
