The number of preseason games is growing steadily from week to week. The Catalonia championship continued with two victories by Barcelona and a split between Sant Boi and Hercules.
FC Barcelona – CB Viladecans 6-4 and 1-0
Game one was an audition of two young pitching prospects of Barca. Guillem MARTI and Jonathan GARCIA started against Francisco DESPAIGNE and Joshua CASTRO of Viladecans.
The second part of the doubleheader on Sunday featured a pitching duel between Marc JODAR, Alberto MAGELLON (both Viladecans), Homer BAEZ and Andoni ORTIZ (Barcelona). Jorge MIKELEIZ scored the winning run, after reaching base through a double.
CB Sant Boi – Hercules L’Hospitalet 1-3 and 2-1
Sant Boi and Hercules had two teenagers on the mound in the first game. The 16-year-old Oscar JIMENEZ (Hercules) threw 6 1/3 innings to receive the win. 15-year-old Daniel MATIAS (Sant Boi) showed good control in three frames.
The home team scored the go-ahead run in the second game in the bottom of the ninth. Hospitalet had tied the contest in the seventh. Carles VAZQUEZ (Hercules) and Albert VARGAS (Sant Boi) started for the respective clubs. VARGAS had to be replaced by Alvin FIGUEROA due to an undisclosed injury. The Dominican reliever FRANCIS received the loss.
The exhibition schedule also kicked off in Germany and the Netherlands. The Solingen Alligators opened their pursuit for the German title with two easy wins against a second division team. DOOR Neptunus earned a tie in Rotterdam in their last match before their trip to Cuba this week.
