The preliminary round at the Prague Baseball Week continued on Thursday with three games.
GB Lions – Planet Baseball 8-6
In the afternoon the Great Britain Lions got their first win of the tournament with an 8-6 victory over Planet Baseball. Six runs in the seventh turned the game around, as the Lions trailed by 1-6 at that point. Gary Davison highlighted the big rally with a grand slam. He finished with five RBI. Erikson Fish and Collin Gabel had two RBI apiece for Planet Baseball
International Stars – German U18 9-6
In the second afternoon match the International Stars improved to 3-0 with a 9-6 victory over the German U18 squad. The Stars took a quick 5-1 lead after three frames, but Germany came back and tied the contest on a grand slam by Halil Ismail Ciftci in the top of the sixth. Germany then even got the lead, but the selection of various players of Europe’s leagues put three runs on the board in the seventh and sealed the win. Jaroslav Sitar scored twice. Joe Wittig had three hits in three at-bats.
Czech Republic – Czech U18 6-2
In the evening the internal matchup within the Czech Baseball Association was won by the seniors. The Czech national team defeated the U18 national team of the Czech Republic 6-2 for their third win in as many days. Jakub Grepl got the Juniors in front with a two-run single in the top half of the fourth. But the seniors answered with four runs in the bottom half of the same frame. Michal Ondracek had a two-run double to get them back ahead.
