Pitcher Leonardo D’Amico to Montepaschi Grosseto

Montepaschi Grosseto was interested in Buddy BENGEL to strengthen the pitching staff in 2008. However he decided to go to Telemarket Rimini and they had to look elsewhere. They now have signed an experienced pitcher who is familiar with the Italian Baseball League.

Leonardo D’AMICO joins the 2007 champion. The 26-year-old is from Maracay, Venezuela. He also has an Italian passport. He was in the Anaheim Angels organization between 2000 and 2003. He appeared in 55 games (29 starts) for their minor league affiliates at the Rookie and Single A level. He had a combined 5-12 record with an ERA of 4.86. D’AMICO who features a 90 MPH fastball struck out 133 (52 BB) in 172.2 innings pitched.

He came to Italy and signed with Paterno in 2005. In 42.2 innings pitched as their closer he had an ERA of 4.44 with 30 strikeouts and 23 walks. He went to Rimini (60.2 IP, 41 SO, 21 BB, ERA 3.42) in 2006. He stayed there until last year. He impressed with a 0.92 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 19.2 innings pitched but missed the second half of the season due to an injury.
