With their fifth straight loss the Perth Heat dropped to fourth place in the Australian Baseball League on Sunday. After the Sydney Blue Sox beat them 3-2 on Saturday thanks to a run by Trent D’Antonio in the tenth, they completed the sweep one day later with an easy 10-3 victory. The Blue Sox solidified first place with the two wins, as they are now leading the standings with a 17-10 record. Perth is at 14-14.
The Adelaide Bite also continued to thrive this weekend against the Canberra Cavalry, winning four of the five games this week. On Saturday Dushan Ruzic (W 4-1) struck out eight in eight innings in a 5-2 win. On Sunday they scored ten runs between the fourth and seventh in a 12-1 rout. Donald Lutz drove in the lone run with a double in the opening frame. He sat the game out on Saturday. Mariekson Gregorius went 1-for-8 on the weekend. Additionally the Brisbane Bandits and the Melbourne Aces split two games this weekend.
