After losing in extra innings on Thursday, the Canberra Cavalry fought back one day later, winning 9-7 against the Brisbane Bandits. A two-out grand slam by Michael Collins in the bottom of the eighth decided the outcome. German right fielder/first baseman Donald Lutz hit his second homerun in two days and the fourth in the season. He drove in two. Dutch shortstop Mariekson Gregorius went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Alan Schoenberger had hit a grand slam for Brisbane.
The other two games in the Australian Baseball League on Friday were won by the road teams. The Perth Heat again celebrated, as they scored nine runs between the fifth and the eighth en route to an 11-7 win against the Sydney Blue Sox. Allan de San Miguel homered twice and drove in four for the Heat. Mitch Dening had three RBI for Sydney. Trent Schmutter scored thrice. The Adelaide Bite also rallied to win 6-3 over the Melbourne Aces. Adelaide put five runs on the board in the last two frames to seal the victory.
