Over the Easter weekend, Paris UC (9-0 overall, 6-0 French DI) went 3-0 to win the Paastornooi tournament in Belgium hosted by the Merksem Royal Greys. The tournament consisted of 4 teams – Paris UC (France), 2 first division Belgian teams (Merksem Royal Greys and Borgerhout Squirrels), and Olympia Haarlem from the Netherlands. In the first game of the weekend, Paris UC starter James MURREY tossed a no-hitter to beat the Borgerhout Squirrels 1-0. The only run came when Francisco ARRIAGADA scored on a wild pitch from 3rd base. In game 2, Paris UC received strong pitching performances from Fred MOUCHET and Maximin MONBEIG to beat Olympia Haarlem by a score of 5-1. And in the championship game, starter Will MUSSON shutout tournament host Merksem Royal Greys to lead Paris UC to a decisive 4-0 victory.
Here’s a quote about the weekend from Head Coach Jeff Stoeckel: “Normally, this weekend in the French Division I season is an off-week. However, while I was back-and-forth about whether or not to give my guys the week off, this weekend proved to be a good experience for a few of our guys who normally don’t see the lineup very often. We traveled to Antwerp with a small roster and everyone got a chance to get some extra at-bats and in-game experience. I’m very proud of my team and I hope we can keep the momentum going into this weekend in Montpellier.”
