The Czech Baseball Association (CBA) announced on Wednesday that Ostrava will be one of the hosts of the 2014 European Championship. The city in the east of the Czech country is going to be the site for the first-round group with Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Netherlands, Spain and Russia. Regensburg, Germany hosts the other six teams Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Sweden and France.
“We are very glad that we have first city. Ostrava will host international baseball tournament after 5 years. I do not doubt it will be great event because local organizers have already many experience – they organized World University Baseba
ll Championship 2008 or CEB European Cup 2009 and others,” said Petr Ditrich, President of CBA.
“Our aim is to organize one international baseball or softball event every year. We are very happy that we can host European Championship Seniors in 2014 because City of Ostrava will be European City of Sport in 2014 so we have big support from the City of Ostrava and also Moravian-Silesian Region,” said Martin Bohoněk, President of SKSB Arrows Ostrava.
One more decision is open for the 2014 European Championship, as CBA as to determine which city will host the final round and the Gold Medal Game. Discussions with possible cities are ongoing with an announcement to be expected in the coming weeks.
