The ORKAS continue their way towards the top of the Liga Paralela standings. They defeated MAGALLANES 3-2 on Friday for their sixth straight victory. Their record now is at 7-2.
The MAGALLANES took a 2-0 lead after runs in the top of the first and third by Freddy Noguera and Carlos Colmenares (3-4, 2 2B). But the ORKAS answered right away. They scored two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game on Walter Correa’s two-out two–run single. They went up 3-2 in the fifth, when leadoff hitter Gerson Manzanilla scored his second run of the game.
Bryon Bell, the slugger of the Belgian champion GREYS, made his debut, pinch hitting for Daniel Bittar in the sixth inning. He later stayed in the game as the first baseman. Steffan Hoogewerff started in right field, walked, singled and scored once in three plate appearances.
Kevin Alarcon (W 2-0) started and struck out seven in five solid innings. He gave up two runs on six hits. Jurjen Van Zijl replaced him and allowed one hit and a walk in three innings of relief. He struck out one. Yorby Marcano closed it out with a scoreless ninth. It was his first save of the season.
After the rained out opener and the cancelled game against LA GUARIA due to a protest, the ORKAS have their first official off day this Saturday (see picture), before taking on the CARIBES on Sunday.
