The Chinese Softball Team also won their second game in the Olympics, beating Venezuela 7-1 on Wednesday. Yanhong Yu went three-for-four with a homerun and three runs scored. Chunxia Li and Ying Tan each drove in two.
Wei Lu (W 1-0) pitched 3 2/3 innings for the win. She allowed one run on six hits, striking out one. Mariangee Bogado (L 0-1) gave up seven hits, five runs and three base on balls in 4 1/3 innings.
USA – Australia 3-0

Another day and another no-hitter for Team USA at the Olympics. One day after the combined five-inning no-no by Jennie Finch and Monica Abbot, it was Cat Osterman’s turn. She struck out 13 in seven innings, while walking three in a dominating win against the silver medalist of 2004.
Natasha Watley broke up a scoreless tie in the fifth with a RBI single, which was followed by a two-run shot by Crystl Bustos one frame later to seal the 3-0 victory against Australia.
Tanya Harding (L 0-1) did a good job in the beginning, but lost in the end anyway. She gave up four hits, three runs and three walks in five-plus innings.
Taiwan – Japan 1-2

Japan also moved their record to 2-0 with a 2-1 victory against Taiwan. Satoko Mabuchi brought Japan the lead with a solo homerun in the fourth. They added a second run a period later on Eri Yamada’s RBI single. Chinese Taipei tried to come back in the seventh, but only could cut the deficit in a half with a RBI single by Yun-Chi Tung, who was thrown out at second by center fielder Yamada, trying to stretch the single into a double, which ended the threat and the game.
Hiroko Sakai (W 1-0) allowed six hits and a run in a complete game victory. She struck out six. Sheng-Jung Lai (L 0-1) was charged with seven hits, two runs and two bb in 4 2/3 innings.
Netherlands – Canada 2-9

Starting pitcher Kristie de Vries and the Dutch Women Softball team lost for the second time in the Olympics on Wednesday, getting out-scored 9-2 by Canada. Jennifer Yee started the scoring in the third with a three-run single, after shortstop Sandra Gouverneur made an error with two outs. The maple leafs added six more runs in the following two frames, including two-run homeruns by Kaleigh Rafter and Melanie Matthews.
Gouverneur accounted for one of the two Netherlands runs with a solo shot in the fifth. Jolanda Kroesen drove in the second with a sac bunt.
Danielle Lawrie (W 1-0) allowed two hits and a run in four innings to pick up the win. De Vries gave up three unearned runs on three hits in three innings. Rebecca Soumeru relieved her and was hit hard in the remaining three frames.
