Kinheim catcher Tjerk Smeets proposed wedding to gold medal winner Minke Smaber (hockey) during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in the National Stadium of Beijing surrounded by hockey, baseball and softball teammates and the rest of the Olympic delegation from the Netherlands.

Good for Europe: Sidney de Jong became best catcher and Bryan Engelhardt best left fielder of the Olympic baseball tournament 2008.
