North: Regents upset Cardinals with two one-run victories
Hannover Regents – Cologne Cardinals 6-5, 3-2
The REGENTS upset the CARDINALS by winning both games against the team in the fourth spot of the standings. After playing most of the year against relegation, HANOVER now is looking towards the top of the standings, being only separated by two games in the win column with one game left versus COLOGNE.
Yonatan Werchow provided the game-winner in the first part of the doubleheader, hitting a two-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth for a 6-4 lead. The CARDS got back a run in the ninth on a RBI single by Anderson Alvarez, but failed to tie the contest. The REGENTS built up a 3-0 lead after runs by Christoph Mohr, Ortwin Stotz and Werchow in the second game of the day. Ryo Kagami and Alvarez scored runs in the eighth and ninth for COLOGNE, but again they were stopped to lose by a run.
