North: Race for Playoff Spots still tight

Solingen Alligators – Dortmund Wanderers 5-0, 8-3

After the split against the UNTOUCHABLES a week ago, the ALLIGATORS swept the doubleheader against the WANDERERS. DORTMUND, which had moved into a playoff spot on last game day, dropped into fifth place again.

In game one, Andre Hughes dominated for his ninth win of the year, holding a no-hitter till the eighth frame and finishing with a complete game shutout. The offense provided him with a fast 2-0 lead in the first two frames and put a few insurance runs on for a final score of 5-0. Christian Nsien had two RBI. Moritz Buttgereit scored twice and had a RBI. Rene Herlitzius took the loss.

In the second match on Sunday afternoon, Dustin Hughes brought SOLINGEN a 3-1 lead in fourth with a three-run homerun. They scored five more times till the end and defeated the WANDERERS 8-3. Hughes finished with four RBIs. Dominik Wulf added a RBI triple. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez pitched seven innings to move his record to 10-0. Bonn Capitals – Hanover Regents 4-1, 11-2

After the two disappointing losses in DORTMUND, BONN got back on the winning track against the REGENTS. They surprised everybody by bringing Tim Henkenjohann to the mound in game one and used the momentum to beat HANOVER twice.

Henkenjohann, a former Minor Leaguer in the MINNESOTA TWINS organization, had broken his right hand days before the season opener and missed most of the first three months of the season. Last Saturday he started surprisingly game one against the REGENTS and threw a complete game, while striking out eleven, to lead the CAPITALS to a 4-1 victory. He allowed just one unearned run on six hits.

BONN thriven by the momentum from the first part of the doubleheader, used a few errors by the HANOVER defense to score fast and to build up a 6-1 lead after five innings en route to an easy 11-2 win. Martin Amparo and Mirko Heid combined on the mound to hold the REGENTS offense down.

Cologne Cardinals – HSV Stealers 9-1, 9-3

The CARDINALS scored nine runs twice and swept the twin bill against the STEALERS to solidify a spot in the top four of the standings.

COLOGNE used a five-run fifth to beat the HSV 9-1 in game one. Pascal Raab had a shutout till the eighth and finished with his second win in a week. Marcel Brede took the loss.

The STEALERS took a fast 2-0 lead in the second match. But the CARDS came back and scored four runs each in the fifth and sixth period to win by a final result of 9-3. Moritz Sckaer allowed just three runs on five hits in eight innings for the win. Andrew White took the loss.

Neunkirchen Nightmares – Paderborn Untouchables 4-17, 4-36

Without their three best pitchers Pablo Reveand, Sergei Heinrich and Hendrik Tschuschke, the NIGHTMARES had no chance against the UNTOUCHABLES and lost by football scores. PADERBORN scored twelve runs in the first frame of game one on their way to a 17-4 victory. They took a 9-1 lead in the fourth in the second match and crushed NEUNKIRCHEN 36-4 to complete the most lopsided sweep in recent Bundesliga history. The Hawaiians Gavin Ng and Cy Donald combined for a dozen hits on the day and led the unstoppable offense.
