The CAPITALS hopes for a playoff spot took a major hit in their doubleheader last Saturday against the STEALERS. They had to settle for a split, which brought their record to 14-13 with a game against the ALLIGATORS left. If they lose this, they have to hope for three losses by the CARDINALS in the reminder of the season.

In the first match the HSV won through a walk off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth by Benjamin Dunisch with 4-3, after Marcel De Vos had tied the game on a wild pitch moments before. BONN had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth, but they blew it. Marc Marsch hit a two-run single. The STEALERS led till the second after a two-run single by Thomas Riedner. Tim Henkenjohann (L 1-1) allowed six hits, four runs (3 ER) and three walks in 8 2/3 innings. He left the mound with the bases loaded (after three straight bb) and two outs in the bottom of the ninth and Mirko Heid gave up the decisive hit.  HSV starter Marcel Brede allowed three runs in seven-plus innings. Christoph Ehlers picked up the win.

In the second part of the doubleheader the outcome was also decided in the last period, this time in extra innings. The CAPITALS scored two runs in the top of the tenth to prevail in a 8-7 victory and to hold their slim playoff chances alive. They loaded the bases through two singles and an intentional walk, scoring twice on a walk by Michael Ullrich and when Marc Marsch was hit by a pitch. The STEALERS were able to cut the deficit to a run in the bottom of the frame, but failed to even the score out. The HSV had taken a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh, though BONN answered right away and tied the game in the top of the eighth. The starters Martin Amparo (BON) and Andrew White (HSV) both went six-plus innings in no-decisions. Mirko Heid received the win, Florian Riedel the loss.
