North: Alligators maintain perfect Home Record
Cologne Cardinals – Hanover Regents 15-1
The CARDINALS crushed the REGENTS 15-1 on Saturday and used their first of three match balls to clinch the last open berth in the German Bundesliga playoffs. Like the past years, they will face the BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE in the quarterfinals.
Paderborn Untouchables – HSV Stealers 13-0, 10-1
Even without of one of their main stays in the lineup, as Mitch Franke and Julius Uelschen are travelling with the German Baseball Academy team, the UNTOUCHABLES had no problems to conclude the regular season with two lopsided victories against the STEALERS. Eugen Heilman allowed just two hits in seven innings, while striking out seven to lead his team to a 13-0 shutout in game one. They offense supported him strong and early slugging out a 7-0 lead after three frames and finishing the blowout with a six-run sixth. Marcel Brede took the loss.
The second match was not much different. They scored seven runs in the first two periods en route to a 10-1 victory. Beningo Ozuna copied the performance by Heilman and threw six scoreless innings for the win. HSV starter Andrew White was chased after one-plus innings to take the loss. Bjoern Schonlau (six hits), Georg Enzian and Gavin Ng (each four hits in two games combined) led the offense of PADERBORN.
They finished in second place in the northern conference, facing the strong MANNHEIM TORNADOS in the first round of the playoffs.
Solingen Alligators – Cologne Cardinals 10-0, 13-1
Through to the win by the CARDINALS on Saturday the doubleheader on Sunday in SOLINGEN wasn’t much better than an exhibition series. The ALLIGATORS completed their perfect home season with two lopsided victories. In game one, they used a six-run sixth and a strong performance by starter Andre Hughes to beat COLOGNE 10-0. Hughes pitched five nearly flawless innings on his way to his eleventh win of the season. Patrick Kanthak and Dustin Hughes led the offense with two-run singles. Pascal Raab took the loss.
Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez started the second game and the offense of SOLINGEN never stopped scoring. They put runs on the board in every of the first six innings, leading to a 13-1 victory. Marquez-Ramirez struck out ten in four innings for the win. Chris Beck hit a two-run homerun. Kevin Faries received the loss.
The ALLIGATORS are now facing the MAINZ ATHLETICS, which kicked them out of the playoffs last year.
