NETTUNO defeated GROSSETO 4-3 in the semi-finals at the European Cup Final Four in Barcelona to advance into the title game on Sunday. They will face the winner of the evening match between the FC BARCELONA and T&A SAN MARINO.
MONTEPASCHI actually had the better start and took a 1-0 lead in the third. Jorge Nunez had reached on a throwing error by shortstop Luis Ugueto, advanced to third through two steals and scored on a RBI groundout by Davide Dallospedale.
But DANESI didn’t needed long to answer it. They turned the score over in the fourth on a two-run single by Andrea Castri’. They added two more runs on a two-run double by Ramon Tavarez in the fifth for a 4-1 advantage.
Luca Bischeri delivered a two-run single in the sixth to bring GROSSETO within a run. They had one last opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. Andrea De Santis and Jorge Nunez singled with two outs to put runners on the corners. But Dallospedale struck out against reliever Giovanni Carrara (S 1) to end the threat.
Carlos Richetti (W 1-0) started with five no-hit innings and settled with a solid start to pick up the win. He allowed three hits, three runs (2 ER) and three base on balls in six innings. Chris Cooper (L 0-1) took the loss, giving up eight hits, four runs and four walks in five.
