Dutch starter Juan Carlos Sulbaran allowed three runs on seven hits in the first two innings and the Korean professional club Woorie Heroes put a 3-0 lead on the board after the opening periods. However the Dutch team, which had beaten the Eckerd College Tritons on Saturday 18-1, rallied for three runs to reach a 3-3 tie in their second World Baseball Classic warm-up.
Danny Rombley cut the lead to a run with his two-run single in the fourth frame. The 33-year-old former Major League first baseman Randall Simon debuted successfully, driving in the tying run Eugene Kingsale one inning later. Simon had two of the seven Dutch hits and also scored once. Besides Rombley and Simon, Sharlon Schoop, Curt Smith, Kalian Sams and Dirk van’t Klooster had hits too, according to Rogier van Zorn’s report on Honkbalsite.com.
The relievers Tom Stuifbergen (2 IP, 1 H), Dennis Neuman (1 H), Diegomar Markwell, Nick Stuifbergen, Berry van Driel and Pim Walsma followed Sulbaran on the mound and allowed just two more hits against the Heroes. On Tuesday the Dutch National Team will face the University of South Florida in Tampa. Manager Rod Delmonico has to submit the final roster of 28 players to the WBC organizers by the same day.
