Rogier van Zon of Honkbalsite.com has the preliminary roster of the Netherlands Baseball World Cup team on his website. He also reports that outfielder Roger Bernadina of the Washington Nationals will not play for the Dutch team during the tournament, as his club vetoed his participation due to his injury (broken leg) from April.
Besides the missing Major Leaguers Jair Jurrjens, Wladimir Balentien (on 25-man rosters), Andruw Jones (on disabled list) and Sidney Ponson (suspended by IBAF), starting pitcher Rick van den Hurk of the Florida Marlins, who was reassigned to the Triple-A team a few days ago, will also not be available.
Interestingly Shairon Martis, who started the season in the rotation of the Nationals, but is pitching for their Triple-A team since a few weeks, is on the preliminary roster, which could be a big key to success for the squad, if he makes the trip.
Head coach Rod Delmonico has to submit a final roster of 24 players to the IBAF by Sunday. Until the start of the tournament five players can be substituted. The Dutch team will prepare against Italy in a four-game exhibition series (September 8-11) before starting into the Baseball World Cup. Both teams have a bye in round one, as they host the second round.
