More details for possible Baseball World Cup in Italy 2009

Baseball.it is reporting some more details regarding a possible Baseball World Cup 2009 in Italy. Like several media outlets already have published they are planning a qualifying round all over Europe in front of the regular tournament. Germany, Spain, France, Russia and Sweden are now considered to host pools. After that a preliminary round with sixteen teams would take place in the Netherlands and Italy.

The final round, beginning with the quarters, belongs exclusively to Italy. They are now planning to hold these final games in Rome in front of approximately 20.000 people. However this ballpark is not build yet.

Boston Red Sox president Larry LUCCHINO said last fall that he is supporting such plans. If the ideas and visions are transferred into a great Baseball World Cup 2009 it could be a big step for the development of our sport in Europe.
