Shairon Martins: The Minnesota Twins acquired Dutch right-hander Shairon Martis in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 25-year-old was playing for the Pirates Double-A affiliate and had a 6-2 record with an ERA of 4.69 between Double-A and Triple-A. He has pitched in the big leagues before. He is coming in exchange for future considerations to the Twins organization and is expected to join the New Britain Rock Cats (Double-A).
Jair Bogaerts: The Chicago Cubs have released first baseman Jair Bogaerts. They had received him from the Boston Red Sox as part of the compensation deal for Theo Epstein. Jair Bogaerts is the twin brother of Red Sox prospect Xander Bogaerts. Jair Bogaerts hasn’t appeared in an official game yet this year. The 19-year-old was batting .227/.320/.321 in 93 games in the Dominican Summer League.
Stepan Havlicek: Czech left-hander Stepan Havlicek had a successful debut into his professional career. He debuted for the Gulf Coast League Rays on June 19, going four innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out five. He hasn’t appeared in a game since.
Donald Lutz: German first baseman/outfielder Donald Lutz is back with the Bakersfield Blaze. He returned to the lineup on Wednesday after missing a month due to an oblique injury. He went 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout. During his rehab assignment in the Arizona League he showed no signs of his injury, going 9-for-14 with two triples, two doubles, three runs and five RBI in four games.
Dovydas Neverauskas: Lithuanian right-hander Dovydas Neverauskas has entered his third professional season with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. The 19-year-old issued two runs on two hits and five walks in three innings in his first start of 2012 on June 20. He is still in the Gulf Coast League.
