The Mannheim Tornados have won their 11th Softball Championship in Germany and are now tied for the league record. This past weekend they erased a 0-2 deficit in the best-of-five final series against the Neunkirchen Nightmares. The Nightmares were two outs away of a three-game sweep, but a muffed throw at first base allowed Mannheim to win game three 4-3. Lori Spingola then pitched the Tornados to a 1-0 shutout in game four to tie the series. In the decisive fifth game four runs in the second laid the groundwork en route to an 8-3 victory. For Mannheim it’s their first title since 2011. Last year they won the league cup.
