The former Major League reliever Marino Salas has signed with the Serie A club Ilcea BSC Rovigo, which plays in the first division of the Federal Championship in Italy.
The 28-year-old Dominican had an ERA of 8.47 in 13 appearances for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008 season. He also spent time with the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers organizations and had an ERA of 3.57 in 302 minor league games. He pitched in the Mexican League last year.
Rovigo is playing in Pool A of the newly formed Serie A championship under the two Italian Baseball Leagues. They started the 2010 season with two wins over Cariparma Piacenza. Salas started game two of the doubleheader, allowing three hits, a run and six walks in seven innings. He struck out eleven in the 8-1 victory.
