London Mets sign pitcher Brian Essery
The reigning British champion London Mets has signed a new pitcher for the 2008 season. Right-hander Brian ESSERY pitched for the national team at the European championships in Barcelona. The 32-year-old started three games with a 1-1 record and an ERA of 3.31. He struck out just three (four walks) in 16.1 innings pitched.
The last ten years he played for the Canadian St. Catherines Metros. In nine starts last season he had an ERA of 1.40, striking out 54 (13 BB) in 58 innings pitched. The Metros are in an independent league in Ontario.
