Not even half of the games were played on the opening weekend of the Baseball-Bundesliga due to the bad weather and field conditions. All participants are hoping for the better this time.
In the northern conference, the PADERBORN UNTOUCHABLES open the new season on their home turf against the promising promoted club DORTMUND WANDERERES. After a successful trip to Spain for their training camp the U’s are certainly hopeful to get off to a good start. But it is not going easy against the new Bundesliga club.
In the south the BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE square off with the undefeated MANNHEIM TORNADOS. The team of REGENSBURG were not happy over the postponement last week and are motivated to kick off their season. But their first opponent of the year is at the same time one of the toughest challengers for the top spot in the standings. They beat the 2007 champion MAINZ ATHLETICS twice on opening day and hold already a better record than last season at about the same time.
Another interesting game takes place in Mainz, where the ATHLETICS face the HEIDENHEIM HEIDEKOEPFE with former Major Leaguer Mike Hartley and their powerful offense. The reigning titleholder is already in danger to begin the season in the cellar of the standings.
