In a duel between undefeated teams South Korea overcame a 0-3 deficit and stunned Cuba with a 7-4 victory to move into lone position of first place with a 6-0 record.
The three-time Gold winner Cuba took a 3-0 lead in the second on a two-run double by Ariel Pestano and a RBI single by Giorbis Duvergel. But Korea came back. They rallied for five runs in the fourth on three hits and a throwing error by pitcher Norberto Gonzalez to go in front. Young Min Ko evened the score with a two-run single. The following error led to two more runs.
They added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh on RBI singles to seal the win. Frederich Cepeda drove in another Cuban run with a single in the eighth. But it was too little too late.
Seung Jun Song (W 1-0) allowed five hits, three runs and four base on balls in 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Norge Luis Vera (CUB) started and allowed just one walk in two innings. Vicyohandry Odelin (L 1-1) took over in the third and took the loss.
