The Montigny Cougars have signed the 23-yer-old right-handed pitcher Justin Fry for the upcoming season in the French Elite League. His last team was the independent Frontier League club Windy City Thunderbolts, where he made four appearances in 2009. The Bolts got aware of him, when they saw him at a pre-draft showcase of the Cincinnati Reds last spring and signed him after an open tryout.
After attending Cross Creek High School in Augusta, GA and Darton College in Albany, GA, Fry transferred to the University of South Carolina in 2008. In two seasons NCAA Division II ball he had a 9-4 record with six saves and an ERA of 4.19 in 39 appearances. He struck out 106 batters in 103 innings, walking 66. According to the report on the Cougars website his fastball can reach 89 to 92 MPH.
