MR COCKER HCAW has found a new head coach for their Dutch Hoofdklasse team. Jurjan Koenen, who served as an assistant coach this season, is going to be promoted to skipper duties and replaces Roy Berrevoets.
Berrevoets led the coaching staff at HCAW for the past two years, but the club never finished better than sixth place in the standings. In August he announced that he would be not back in 2009 because he is no longer able to combine the head coach job with his private life and his professional career. He remains in the organization as an adviser. HCAW finished the 2008 season in sixth place with a 14-28 record, 14 games behind fourth place, which was eligible for the playoffs.
Koenen is a former third baseman, who made his debut in 1988 and appeared in 690 over the course of 21 seasons. The 37-year-old entered the coaching staff in 2007. He will be assisted by Ronald Jaarsma, who is retiring from his playing career this winter, after batting .201 in 2008 for MR COCKER. The 31-year-old Jaarsma debuted for NEPTUNUS in the Hoofdklasse 1996 and played in a total of 498 games for the Rotterdam-based club and HCAW.
