The French outfielder Joris Bert is tearing up the Gulf Coast League (Rookie) in Florida. The 21-year-old from Rouen was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in the 2007 amateur draft in the 19th round as the first French player ever. He made his debut for the GCL Dodgers last summer and batted .214 (OBP .361/SLG .214) in twelve games.
This season Bert is off to a good start. In six games so far he has eight hits in 17 at bats (.471) alongside five walks (OBP .609), a triple, four runs scored and three RBI. He reached base in all games and is playing all three positions in the outfield.
