The Australian Baseball League continued this past weekend with week five of the 2015/2016 season. The Canberra Cavalry remain in first place, one game ahead of the Brisbane Bandits and two games in front of defending champion Perth Heat. The Adelaide Bite have picked up some speed lately, having won seven of its last ten games.

The Sydney Blue Sox with Germany’s Jan-Niclas Stoecklin squared off against the Perth Heat this week. Stoecklin started on Sunday and suffered his first loss of the winter. The 25-year-old right-hander of the Mainz Athletics went 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, six runs (2 ER) and three walks. It was his fourth outing. He is now 0-1 with an ERA of 3.94. He has struck out 15 and walked 11 in 16 innings.
