Janda, Dobkowski join Gauting Indians, Emery stays

The German Baseball-Bundesliga club Gauting Indians has announced more transactions for the 2010 season. They have signed pitchers John Dobkowski and Jakub Janda, as well as catcher/infielder Thomas Rohrer. Additionally catcher Matti Emery will return for a second year.

Right-hander Dobkowski was born in Poland, but grew up in Ridgewood, New York. He attended John Jay College (NCAA Division III) in New York City for four years.  He later pitched for the Midwest Sliders of the independent Frontier League. Janda is a 19-year-old right-handed pitcher from Hluboka and a member of the Czech Under-21 National Team. In 2009 he pitched for the Dutch Media Monks RCH Rookie team.

Emery came to Gauting for the second half of the 2009 season and batted .241 (OBP .241/SLG .379) in ten games. The 23-year-old was born in Ottawa, Canada, but has a Lithuanian mother and therefore doesn’t fill a foreign spot on the team. Rohrer is 24 years old and played for the Groebenzell Bandits, a third-division club from Munich. He batted .429 (OBP .500/SLG .531) in 16 games last season.
