After an off day on Sunday the Italian Baseball Series resumed play on Monday in San Marino. FORTITUDO prevailed 4-3 after out-hitting SAN MARINO 14-6 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, regaining home field advantage.
BOLOGNA got on the board in the third with solo homeruns by Eddy Garabito and Richard Austin. Claudio Liverziani extended the gap to 3-0 with a RBI single in the sixth. In the bottom of the frame, T&A broke the shutout bid with a RBI single by Carlos Duran.
FORTITUDO added another insurance run in the eighth on Liverziani’s sac fly, before SAN MARINO cut the deficit to a single run on a two-run homerun by Seth La Fera. Afterwards T&A put the tying run on base, but their last four batters of the game went down in order to end all hopes to complete the comeback.
Fabio Betto (W 1-0) issued just two runs (1 ER) on seven hits and a walk in seven-plus innings. He struck out eight and threw 71 of his 105 pitches for strikes. Matteo D’Angelo and Fabio Milano closed it out. Luca Martignoni (L 0-1) gave up seven hits, two runs and two bb in three-plus innings. William Lucena, Pedro Orta and Mauro Schiavoni also pitched for SAN MARINO.
900 people were in attendance for game three of the series. The fourth match will be played tonight at 9pm CET.
