The Italian Baseball League resumed play in week five of the 2013 season on Saturday. Unipol Bologna needed extra innings to down Parma 4-3. A bases loaded walk by Claudio Liverziani in the bottom of the 11th frame ended the game in walk-off style. Parma had shocked Fortitudo with a two-run ninth to force extra innings. Osman Marval had homered to tie the game. Liverziani went deep for Bologna earier in the contest.
Meanwhile Novara celebrated a 10-0 shutout over Novara. Seven runs in the third, highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Vinicio Sparanga blew the game wide open early. Alessandro Grimaudo had four hits for Nettuno. Riccardo De Santis, Paolo Taschini and Milvio Andreozzi combined for a one-hit shutout. Novara had just three base runners in the contest.
T&A San Marino also shut out their opponents. The Godo Knights lost 0-4 to the Titans. Tiago Da Silva and two relievers issued just three hits and a walk in the game. Mattia Reginato hit a two-run home run to lead the offense. Joe Mazzuca scored twice. Matteo Galeotti gave up seven hits, two runs and three bb in five innings for the loss.
Rimini scored 22 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Toshiba Mastiff Grosseto. The Pirates won game one by a score of 8-2. Mario Chiarini and Riccardo Bertagnon combined for five hits and five RBI. Roberto Corradini threw eight scoreless four-hit innings for the win. In game two Rimini won 14-0 in seven innings. Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez struck out 11 in five scoreless three-hit frames. Alex Romero hit a home run and drove in four. Leonardo Zileri scored three times.
Palfinger Reggio Emilia and the New Black Panthers Ronchi dei Legionari split a twin bill on Saturday. In game one the guests from Ronchi won 2-1. A bases loaded walk by Claudio Berini in the top of the fifth broke a 1-1 tie and provided the game-winner. Matt Litzinger struck out eight in seven innings for the win. In the second game Reggio Emilia had the better ending with an 8-7 victory. Paul Macaluso drove in the decisive run with a walk-off RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom of the 11th inning. A RBI single of Luca Gregorini in the bottom of the ninth had given Reggio the tie. Mattia Salsi got the win, Elia Pasquali the loss.
